NMP-2004-3.4.1.1-2 - Standardisation for nanotechnology

The Commission communication  COM338(2004) highlights the need for activities in metrology. It is becoming urgent that the standardisation needs for Europe are reviewed in consultation with key stakeholders so as to facilitate industrial take up and development by providing harmonised quality standards and measurement techniques. This will also contribute towards making products safe and thus to gain users’ ad consumers’ confidence. The expected SSAs should have the objective of identifying measurement tools and standards, as well as priorities for pre-normative research and elaborating a standards foresight and roadmap for nanotechnology. The expected SSAs should last a maximum of 18 months. Participation of research teams from all over the world is encouraged, according to rules, as well as the participation of industry and standardisation bodies.
